The developers of the Spider-Man 2 video game, Insomniac, expressed deep concern over a significant ransomware attack on their company, leaving the team “saddened and angered” by the criminal cyberattack. Sensitive information, including employee data, company emails, and early details about an upcoming Wolverine game, was compromised and made public by a hacking group.

In a statement, Insomniac conveyed gratitude for the overwhelming support from fans and explained that they took a few days to release an official response to allow their team to cope with the emotional impact of the hack. The studio is actively assessing the extent of the damage, emphasizing that the development of the PS5 exclusive Wolverine game is progressing as planned, despite the challenges.

Insomniac assured fans that Marvel’s Wolverine is in production and will continue to evolve throughout its development. They pledged to share official information at the appropriate time. The gaming community, including fellow developers, journalists, and fans, has strongly condemned the cyberattack, urging against the sharing or republishing of any leaked content.

The ransomware group Rhysida claimed responsibility for the attack, revealing its involvement in a similar incident at the British Library the previous month. Ransomware typically uses malicious software to infect a company’s computer network, encrypting files and demanding payment for their restoration.

Insomniac, known for the Spider-Man games, has disclosed minimal official details about the Wolverine game, emphasizing its “mature” tone. Notably, this incident coincided with a British court handing an indefinite hospital order to a teenager involved in a hack on Grand Theft Auto maker Rockstar earlier in the same week.
